Orleans XXVII ('91)

I took my cue and said...

"But wait, this is not a play.
There are no cues here. No one
has written this for me,
I say what I wish."

And you said...

"But wait, everything I say depends on
what you say, and vice versa.
So there are cues, really."

Then I said...

"Well, if you look at it that way..."

And you said...

"No, that isn't right. You're supposed to argue
a bit more, be a bit more stubborn."

And I said, right on cue...

"I'm tired of being stubborn. I want
to agree. I don't care what's written down.
Kiss me."

And the curtain fell to a standing ovation
As the prologue, unscripted, occurred.

Orleans XXVI ('91)

A letter to Mr. Eliot-
Somehow these dry words
Shimmer.

Something; some strand; (early 1990's)

Something; some strand;
A bother
A nuisance
A light brush to leave a chill; a hair
Out of place across
My neck
A bother

Her Thoughts Came Across Him (early 1990's)

Her thoughts came across him suddenly, expectedly
it was a cold day and a
baby would have had a hard time of it

their bodies (early 1990's)

their bodies brushed each other,
tethered

Just Don't Hurt Me (early 1990's)

"Just don't hurt me," she said
And so of course he did

She Promised (early 1990's)

She promised she wouldn't sleep with him
And so of course she did

A Lighter Shade Of Pale (early 1990's)

I must have been a woman in another life,
and a sensual one at that,
because I'll be damned if I can describe
what I feel like during
orgasm.

Foolish, maybe?

G-Spot in Blue (early 1990's)

When it comes to you, I've got Superman eyes,
X-Ray vision
X-Rated version
Unexpurgated, uncut, lowcut
take
it
all
off

Her Heart Sank (early 1990's)

Her heart sank
when he reached through the dark
and blindly put his hand right on the condom
that he had laid out
before the night began
He had not been swept off his feet,
his feet had been in the same position
in his mind all day, prone
one leg between her two
Her heart filled and she had wanted
to hurt him, where it hurts.
What had been steamy, wet, and perfect
Was now brittle, angry, and ashen
and she gathered up her things
and fled into the night, her
hope and heart as
dry as her vagina
