Austin Treadway took his sister by the hand,
and led her away from the older girl
who had made her cry.
They rounded the brick
and stood outside the 5th grade room.
Austin put his thumb on her chubby cheek,
blotting a tear and was, for the first time,
consciously aware of the fact that,
as Joe Jackson had said,
it's different for girls.
Which of course, if you think about it,
implies that it's different for boys too.
