I don't care
that poets used to work harder
what with rhyming and everything
I don't have to (it's not my fault)
So-
pancakes, breakfast cereal, peanut butter and jelly, oreo
cookies and milk, chicken breast, green beans, water,
coffee, no dessert, the news, prime time, bedtime music,
compact disc, vinyl seat covers, tile floors, aluminum
siding, blue earmuffs, long over coats, short skirts,
textbooks, beer cans, car stereos, paperbacks, floppy discs,
cardboard boxes, Belmont vans, Interview Magazine, dirty
rags, alarm clocks, microwaves, pachysandra, rhododendrum,
coalpile, wicher chair, glass table, rubber yellow gloves,
stuffed animals Gear Bear Squeaky, nicknames Sparky Poopy
Skippy Greener Fleener Seyeobe BilboBags Onion, swearwords,
computer screens, poems about flying, poems about falling,
poems about landing, poems about getting up, poems about me,
soaring voices, soaring birds, aging cats, overflowing
litterboxes, empty water bottles, cousins weddings, family
reunions, pulpits, Thanksgiving, siblings departing, running
sneakers, t-shirts and syrup.
And that's a poem too
Even though it means
Absolutely nothing
