Dissolve (03/13/93)

I'm a tablet dropped
Deep into a cup I bubble, froth,
and effervesce

I lose my coat and rise,
full of air, the water takes
me, makes me fresh, spreads me, accepts
me clean, and jerk against the edge
of glass which forms my liquid body
to a shape,

of currents and tides
storms and thaws
and straws
that pull my soul to lips pursed to a
whistle and a tongue
that drops me back
into the glass but some
of my bubbled spirit bursts
onto your throat and keeps
me, keeps me kept -
me taste your skin retreating
you drink my id explode.
Dissolve.
