I wrote my name upon the sand
Despite the impending tide
I licked the sand with my tongue
And waited for the tide
I dug at the sand with my fingers
And knew the tide would come
I threw a rock into the sea
And told the tide to wait
I threw the stick that wrote my name
Into the raging sea
Since the sea was very calm,
I went in for a swim
I dove under the white
And felt it rumble overhead
Upon a wave I rode,
I rode the mystery of the tide
I held my breath and streamed along,
til sand stopped my flow
The water curled away and I lay there like a whale
And I saw Charles Darwin laughing
At the disappearance of my name
His words were written on the waves
He laughed at erosion just the same
And I saw Chuck D scowling
As he looked at my whitened hull
He had no time to write in the fucking sand
