The tape finally wore out and the poster fell,
and a square of darker wallpaper
appeared, shaming the rest of the room
Will we remember?
The man pointed the camcorder at the marble nude, his
neck was cricked at days end in his hotel
and his left eye felt funny from being clenched shut all day
long
Do we remember?
Those who hold guilt in their hearts hold their memories
tighter
tighter than the gutter grip of the man who has fallen
from the roof of his own house
Those who hold guilt in their hearts have a
white knuckle memory grip
The question for those who hold guilt in their hearts
is no "can we remember? but "can I forget"
