"When A Feller Needs A Friend" read the inscription on the
Briggs Smoking Tobacco barrel. It now held a letter opener
a screwdriver a couple of pencils a rubber band a book of
stamps a roll of film a pack of cigarettes a pack of
baseball cards a Sony Walkman a couple of cassette tapes a
nail at the very bottom a scrap of paper with some addresses on
it a baseball mitt a baseball bat a lock of hair a plain
lock a piece of bread a photo album a loaded revolver a Buck
knife a box of cereal a few love letters a few hate letters
a smaller Briggs Smoking Tobacco barrel a loaded cannon a
roaring tank a steamship a capacity crowd a book of
Shakespeare's complete works a Stephen King paperback a poet
a group of friends a barrel of laughs a boring story a wild
duck a lame pigeon a stool pigeon a dirty table a VCR a
naked woman a man with briefs a guitar a bunch of parsley
and a hollow moon that was extremely clean but void of any
emotion. "When A Feller Needs A Friend" read the
inscription on the Briggs Smoking Tobacco Barrel. It sat on
my father's desk.
