When Sorry Is Shallow 10/17/94

When sorry is shallow
And silence is callous
When there's way too much space
In your tiny two bedroom palace
When the horses are all hungry
But the grass is overgrown
And the wings are all broken
But the birds have all still flown
South south for the winter
Scream scream scream
When the birds have all flown
South for the winter
And silences hang like they
Were written by Pinter
When every obscure reference
Starts to hit home and hit clear
When you want someone to call
But the number from your phone
Disappears from your head
Scream scream scream
When goodbye is nothing
And hello goodbye
When your tears taste like piss
And your bladder is still dry
When your stomach doesn't like you
When your feet don't like walking
When all the right noises come out your mouth
And still you ain't talking
Oooh ooh aieeahh
Scream scream scream

The leaves fall but they are still green
I'll buy a ticket for that land sight unseen
Here's the definition that's not what it means
Here is an illusion that is just as it seems
So scream scream scream
